Matthew Kiernan, PhD, DSc, FRACP, FAHMS, is the Bushell Chair of Neurology and director, discovery and translation at the Brain & Mind Centre at the University of Sydney. In addition, Matthew is professor of neurology at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and editor-in-chief of the Journal of Neurology, Neurosurgery, and Psychiatry (BMJ Journals, United Kingdom).

He is president of the Australian & New Zealand Association of Neurologists. chair of the Motor Neurone Disease Research Institute of Australia, and also serves as president of the Australian Brain Foundation, allocating funds to research and medical education for the treatment and prevention of neurological disorders. Matthew also runs the Multidisciplinary Motor Neurone Disease Clinic at the Brain and Mind Centre and is a member of the steering committee that developed and launched the Australian Motor Neurone Disease Registry.
